“This magnificent natural processed lot from the Hambela district in West Guji is produced by a group of 150 local farmers that leaves in the village of Gute Sodu Kebele, the drying station is located in the Dikitu neighbourhood and that iwhere the name comes from. The farmers are managed and by Mr. Abiyot the owner of “Buno Coffee Trader” that since 2018 has been setting up and acquiring processing station in the area, amongst those he purchased the Dikitu site and decided to use it for processing solely natural coffees and built 120 raised beds for the purpose. The producers in the area are growing their coffee plants along the lushes forest on the hills on the outskirts of the village uder the shade of local trees such as Cordia Africana, Acacia and Albizzia. Mr. Abiyot has been heavily involved on the site for the last two years following the site construction, the selection of the partner farmers, the process of purchase of the cherry and drying practices in order to achieve the best possible results in terms of quality, to facilitate the improvements Buno hired a quality and export manager called Bashura that oversee the cherry selection process, drying and storege on site on a daily basis. Bashura has been setting up a field team, that has been providing training in basic agronmic practices and creating bonds with the producers. Buno has been paying to the local producer that contributed to the lots an extra premium of one birr for every kg delivered during the harvest during the off-season to encourage them to wait on their picking and supplying only fully ripen cherries. Buno has been providing an interest free financial line of credit to the farmers during the off-season for harvest related expenses, the loan then will be deducted from upon cherry delivery payment.”
